"This profound, magical, dryly comical novel reminds readers of the power of story, but they will already be feeling it in their bones. Masterful." Kirkus starred review

Founded in 1971 by the late Jane Jordan Browne and located in Chicago, Browne & Miller Literary Associates is a dynamic boutique agency specializing in full-service representation of a select clientele. Our authors write and publish in most genres of commercial adult fiction and non-fiction; we also actively handle high quality YA and middle grade fiction.

At present, we are most interested in commercial women's fiction, romance, sophisticated and gritty romantic suspense, and thought-provoking, emotional contemporary women's stories that address “hot button” issues. We are also interested in paranormal romances; time travel stories; vampires; Christian/inspirational fiction by established authors. Overall, our tastes are broad and ecclectic and we value exceptional writing and very fine storytelling above all else.

Here's our current wish list:
1. More great YA fiction. Joanna is our resident YA guru and her tastes run toward the “edgy but literary.” She’s a huge fan of John Green (Looking for Alaska), Jay Asher (Thirteen Reasons Why), and Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games). Contemporary "coming of age" stories that explore the emotional pitfalls of growing up and which display an authentic, memorable voice are definitely high on our list. Very interested in teen post-apocalpytic fiction. Also, Joanna is looking for "The Time Traveler's Wife, but for the YA market."
2. A sweeping and totally transporting epic romance a la The Thorn Birds
3. A Chicago-set literary historical mystery or thriller. What Caleb Carr did for New York City in The Alienist, we would love to see some worthy and talented author do for Chicago, i.e. marry the character of Old Chicago with a spellbinding and gritty crime drama.
4. Substantive women’s historical fiction - recent periods (like The Help, which we LOVED!!) as well as long ago eras. We love Americana, also English history, but we are definitely open to other settings and time periods.
5. Substantive women's fiction...think reading group kinds of books.
5. We love Fringe, the new show on Fox...
6. To get a sense of our taste, here's a list of a few books we've read lately and really liked: The Luxe, Rumors, and Envy by Anna Godbersen; The Good Thief by Hannah Tinti; The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows; What is the What? by Dave Eggers; The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart; Mrs. Astor Regrets by Meryl Gordon; Loving Frank by Nancy Horan; American Buffalo by Steven Rinella; The Help by Katherine Stocket; In the Woods by Tana French.

Timely non-fiction projects by well-qualified author-experts in a variety of subject areas also appeal to us. Areas of interest include: biography, cookbooks, history, memoir, prescriptive how-to, self-help, love/dating/relationships, music, pop culture, popular reference, psychology, health, film/media, and sports. We are eager to find an up-and-coming nationally-known journalist who has his/her finger on the pulse of both current affairs and pop culture and who is looking to chronicle the quirky underside of life. Browne & Miller is not accepting new children's book authors and we do not represent horror, sci fi or fantasy novels, poetry, short stories, original screenplays, or software
