I'm a Los Angeles-based writer whose work has been published in many newspapers and magazines, including the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune and The Dallas Morning News. My debut novel, "Boon," is set for release on Feb. 16, 2010.
Among the state and national honors that have recognized my work is the Sigma Delta Chi Award, the second-oldest national journalism awards program after The Pulitzer Prizes.
In a career highlighted by turns as an investigative reporter, state government bureau chief, feature and sports writer, I’ve covered a broad range of issues and topics, from the tempestuous beginnings of tribal casino gambling in the high deserts of New Mexico, to the Academy Awards in Los Angeles, CA.
I ran seven miles at 7,000 feet through the icy predawn streets of Santa Fe for a story on New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, the same fitness-obsessed pol who advocated legalizing heroin [and who accused the state's High Court of practicing chicken-bone voodoo]. I interviewed G.W. Bush during his 2000 campaign on the caboose of a moving train while being mooned and flashed by onlookers. I spent a day with famed former child actor Jerry Mathers as he pitched an IMAX movie about Beavers. And I was very nearly slaughtered by a septuagenarian madman for shooting photographs outside Hunter S. Thompson's Owl Farm. Of course, there's more …
I continue to publish journalism, teach college writing courses, lecture at national writing workshops and appear as a guest on radio and television public affairs programs. I also contribute to the Los Angeles blog LA Observed and post regularly at my Web site, TJSullivanLA.com.

BOON, by TJ Sullivan [ Coming Winter 2010]
Set in the suburbs of Los Angeles, "Boon" tells the story of a newspaper reporter who becomes mired in the murky world of small-town politics when her journalistic pursuit of the facts becomes tangled with her personal pursuit of homeownership, a situation that ultimately forces her to make a choice between fulfilling her dreams and fighting for what she believes in. The quest for truth and square footage exacts a steep price in T.J. Sullivan’s witty, suspense-filled debut novel, coming Winter 2010, from One Red Beetle Press.
